Code of conduct

South Yarra Cricket Club Code of Conduct

 

Purpose:
This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for all members, players, coaches, officials, and spectators involved with South Yarra Cricket Club. Our goal is to promote fair play, respect, inclusivity, and a positive environment that fosters enjoyment and development at all levels of the game.

 

1. Respect for the Game

  • Always respect the traditions, rules, and spirit of cricket.

  • Adhere to the Laws of Cricket and any specific local rules outlined by the club and competition governing bodies.

  • Play the game fairly and with integrity, accepting the umpire’s decision without question.

  • Do not engage in any actions that may bring the game into disrepute, including cheating, abuse of equipment, or unsporting behaviour.

 

2. Respect for People

  • Treat all players, officials, coaches, volunteers, and spectators with courtesy, dignity, and respect.

  • Avoid any form of discrimination, harassment, or bullying based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or any other personal characteristic.

  • Be considerate of others’ feelings and uphold a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

  • Be a positive role model both on and off the field, setting an example for younger players.

 

3. On-Field Behaviour

  • Maintain a high standard of sportsmanship during matches, training, and warm-ups.

  • Do not use offensive language, insults, or gestures that could be deemed disrespectful.

  • Support your teammates and encourage fair play, even in challenging situations.

  • Always remain calm and composed in victory and defeat. Always showing respect for opponents and their spectators at all times.

 

4. Off-Field Behaviour

  • Maintain appropriate conduct at club events, functions, matches, and on social media. What you post online reflects not only on you but also the club and the sport of cricket.

  • Respect the club’s facilities and the property of others. Always clean up after yourself and encourage others to do the same.

  • If you have any issues or grievances, address them with the relevant club officials in a sensible manner, following the proper channels for resolution.

  • Anytime you are representing South Yarra Cricket Club both on and off field you are expected to follow this code of conduct and maintain high standards of behaviour.

  • Club members should always consider the feelings of others. It is easy to give offence where none is intended.

 

5. Commitment to Safety and Well-being

  • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines, particularly those related to equipment, first aid, and the safe conduct of matches and training.

  • Commitment to Child Safety

 

South Yarra Cricket Club recognises the important role that Children and Young People play within our sport and the special care and attention that they need to feel safe.  

 

South Yarra Cricket Club, inclusive of all members, players, coaches, officials and volunteers endorses and adopts Australian Cricket’s Policy forSafeguarding Children and Young People which can be found here:   [https://www.cricket.com.au/integrity/safeguarding-children]

  • If you are feeling unwell or have an injury, it’s important to inform your coach or manager immediately. Don’t participate in activities that could put your health at risk.

 

6. Inclusivity and Equal Opportunity

  • The club is committed to creating an inclusive environment where all individuals, regardless of age, background, or skill level, feel welcome to participate and contribute.

  • We encourage players to be part of all team events and training sessions. Every player should have the opportunity to develop their skills and be involved in match play where possible.

  • We are an equal-opportunity club that values diversity and actively promotes gender equality in all aspects of the game

 

7. Respect for Coaches and Officials

  • Coaches and officials are integral to the development of players and the running of the club. Respect their authority and decisions at all times.

  • If you have concerns regarding coaching, match decisions, or any club matter, approach the relevant person respectfully and through the correct channels.

  • Players are expected to follow the directions of coaches and officials during matches and training, ensuring that training sessions are productive and focused.

 

8. Social Media & Public Relations

  • Be mindful of your online presence. Anything you post on social media should reflect the club’s values of respect, fairness, and inclusivity.

  • Do not post or share anything that may harm the reputation of the club or any individuals within the club.

  • Any media-related requests or statements on behalf of the club should be referred to the committee.

 

9. Breaches of the Code of Conduct

  • Any member who breaches the Code of Conduct may face disciplinary action, including but not limited to:

    • A formal warning.

    • Suspension from a match or event.

    • Temporary or permanent removal from the club.

  • Disciplinary matters will be handled by the Executive, with the member involved given the opportunity to a fair hearing.

 

Acknowledgement

All members, players, coaches, officials, and volunteers are required to read and acknowledge this Code of Conduct upon joining South Yarra Cricket Club. By participating in club activities, you agree to adhere to the expectations outlined above and contribute positively to the cricket community.
